Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine, first expounded by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796, that treats patients with heavily diluted preparations which in higher concentrations are thought to cause effects similar to the symptoms presented. Homeopathic remedies are prepared by serial dilution with shaking by forceful striking, which homeopaths term "succussion," after each dilution under the assumption that this increases the effect of the treatment. This process is referred to as "potentization". Dilution often continues until none of the original substance remains.

Apart from the symptoms of the disease, homeopaths use aspects of the patient's physical and psychological state in recommending remedies. Homeopathic reference books known as repertories are then consulted, and a remedy is selected based on the index of symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are generally considered safe, with rare exceptions. However, some homeopaths have been criticized for putting patients at risk with advice to avoid conventional medicine, such as vaccinations, anti-malarial drugs, and antibiotics. In many countries, the laws that govern the regulation and testing of conventional drugs do not apply to homeopathic remedies.

Claims of homeopathy's efficacy beyond the placebo effect are unsupported by the collective weight of scientific and clinical evidence. Supporters claim that studies published in reputable journals support the efficacy of homeopathy; however, there are only a handful of them, they are not definitive, and they have not been replicated. Several high-quality studies exist showing no evidence for any effect from homeopathy, and the few positive studies of homeopathic remedies have generally been shown to have problems that prevent them from being considered unambiguous evidence for homeopathy's efficacy.

Homeopathic remedies generally contain few or no pharmacologically active ingredients, and for such remedies to have pharmacological effect would violate fundamental principles of science. Modern homeopaths have proposed that water has a memory that allows homeopathic preparations to work without any of the original substance; however, the physics of water are well understood, and no known mechanism permits such a memory. The lack of convincing scientific evidence supporting homeopathy's efficacy and its use of remedies lacking active ingredients have caused homeopathy to be described as pseudoscience and quackery.

What exactly is the difference between naturopathy & homeopathy?
Q. What exactly is the difference between naturopathy & homeopathy?
Asked by idk - Tue Jan 23 19:45:38 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Homeopathy is a medical system based on the idea that "like cures like". Remedies are created by serial dilution and energising so that the original substance is completely reduced to an energetic level. It is safe, rapid, gentle and effective. Naturopathy is the practice of natural (ie. non-drug/surgery) medicine. Naturopaths use nutrition, herbs, massage and some use homeopathy. However, not to the degree a professional homeopath does.

Why does homeopathy continually fail double blind clinical trials?
Q. Sudhakar B: Of course there is a placebo effect when treating animals; the difference is it is in the eyes of the vet or the animal owner, rather than in the patient (i.e. animal) itself.

A. Being a doctor (Homoeopathic) I CAN'T agree with you at all. homoeopathy doesn't fail, the DOCTORS fail. they fail to prescribe the correct medicines and ultimately due to their foolishness Homoeopathy suffers. Homoeopathy is neither 'placebo effect', nor is it 'quack practice.' It is a proven science. If it were hoax or quack, it could not have survived the long era of time. the MASTERS of Homoeopathy, almost all of them used to be allopathic physicians. Why do you think they changed their mode of treatment from allopathy to homoeopathy? Answer this you fools. On emore thing I would like to add... the medicines are not dilutions. they are NOT diluted. They are converted into higher potencies by two DYNAMIC processes called 'Succussion' [cont.]

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine developed by Samuel Hahnemann, first published in 1796 and based on a "law of similars" where "like cures like". The system's efficacy is controversial. One of the most controversial aspects is the dilution of medicines to a point where less than one molecule of active ingredient would remain.
