Does Hypnotherapy work for quitting smoking and how much does it cost?
Q. A clinic called Health Awareness is in town and offering Hypnotherapy to stop smoking. Does this work and what is the cost as they didn't say in their ad except for a $10 donation when signing in.
Asked by ed l - Fri Jan 26 16:04:19 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I can't tell you the cost today but it does work. I paid $50 but that was 17 years ago. The key is you really really must want to quit. It doesn't get rid of the urge to smoke but it helps to lessen the urge. With that and your will you can succeed. I have been off cigarettes 17 years now thanks to hypnotherapy. Even if you pay a lot for the hypnotherapy at today's prices for cigarettes you can save a lot of money quickly while improving your health.

Do you think Hypnotherapy is more effective than psychiatric help?

A. Well let's look at the two things hypnosis is most commonly used for: 1.) What you refer to, attempting to reprogram the brain through the subconscious. I have not seen any evidence that this works, and additionally we know that people who are hypnotized for whatever purpose will often respond to hypnotic suggestion at first but it will gradually wear off and might be gone in a few hours or a few weeks depending on the person and the suggestion. This makes it a pretty inefficient tool for reforming a person in the long-term. 2.) Delving into the past. Unfortunately it has been proven that people who give away information when hypnotized do not do so with greater accuracy than when conscious. They are, however, more likely to fib with… [cont.]

How often is Hypnotherapy used in high profile criminal cases?
Q. How often is hypnotherapy used in high profile criminal cases and does it help the defendant? How effect is it toward helping a defendant? Are there any list of criminals that have used hypnotherapy or criminal cases where it has been used and been effective?

A. Almost never. Most courts do not grant any particular credit or weight to evidence obtained through hypnotic recall, and some jurisdictions discount or refuse to admit memories obtained in this manner because of the potential for undue influence.

In what way does hypnotherapy assist sufferers of anxiety and phobias?
Q. Has hypnotherapy been proven to assist in the reduction of generalised anxiety, in sufferers of anxiety and panic disorders? Could a hypnotherapy session potentially be frightening, to an anxious person?
Asked by Irena - Fri Mar 14 09:41:37 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes hypnotherapy can assist in calming down and overcoming anxiety and phobias. My sister had a phobia of driving after she had a bad accident and hypnotherapy helped her to overcome it. Perhaps if it sounds frightening, you can start with self-hypnosis. Take some hypnotherapy course either through classes or online. My sister did an online course.

Can hypnotherapy help me recover lost memories of abuse?
Q. I am considering trying hypnotherapy to recover lost memories of abuse. Would hypnotherapy be a good option? I was raped when I was 6 and can't remember anything. I want to understand why I act the way I do and where this extreme behaviour stems from. Will hypnotherapy work?
Asked by bitchgalore - Fri Sep 25 21:11:21 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Hypnosis is just as likely to create false memories as it is to uncover 'repressed' memories. Here's a better idea: find a counselor or friend who can sit with you while you 're-tell' the story... where the six year old STOPS the rape from happening... or the present-day you steps in to the scene and saves the six year old from getting hurt. That would be much more empowering that 'recovering' a frozen memory.

Is it true that hypnotherapy is only effective if used by a psychiatrist?
Q. I've heard from an unreliable source that can only psychiatrists are good at hypnotherapy. That psychologists aren't? Is that true. Also can hypnotherapy can help to cope with a bad memory? My goal is NOT to erase the bad memory itself. Instead, my goal is to deal with it and eliminate all emotions attached to it. In my case, it would be a case of post traumatic stress disorder due to sexual harassment.

A. hypnotherapy isnt related to any job besides the person executing it. If your family learn it properly, even they can apply it. If i get this right and you are also talking about hypnosis, then let me say the following: hypnosis only effects if you are open to it. if you are scared for it, you are not vurnable for it. You must feel comfortable when its being applied to you. You NEVER do something you normally wouldnt either when being in hypnotic state. Anyways, your source was unreliable indeed.

Should facebook have the right to veto advertisements about Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Q. Facebook is potentially a valuable advertising channel for therapists, however in an arbitrary decision that hypnotherapy has no value, they prevent hypnotherapists from advertising their services. This despite the fact there are many research documents proving the value of hypnotherapy. Do you believe this is a fair decision from an informed publisher?

Or last contact hypnotherapy schools/institutes to see if they require supervised practice to be licensed or certified, That might be free,

Has my hypnotherapy for negative thinking stopped working?
Q. After my first hypnotherapy treatment 3 days ago for anxiety and negative thinking i felt great - happy, positive and relaxed. Now on the 4th day, i feel like it has stopped somewhat, and worries and negativity are creeping back in. One worry is that the hypnotherapy has stopped working. A. Give it time, you've only had one session. After you've had more, you'll probably find the effects are longer lasting and that you can use some of the techniques on yourself to deal with your negative thoughts. Patterns of negative thinking aren't undone overnight! I'd suggest you buy some CBT-based self-help books, for extra tips that you can use yourself when you are at home. Large bookshops should sell them or you can get them on sites like Amazon. Good luck!

Has anyone ever heard of hypnotherapy curing epilepsy?
Q. I know it sounds strange, but do you think it could work? I'm at the end of my rope. I'm 23 years old, and I still don't have a driver's license because I have seizures. I'm on daily medication, but still have at least one seizure about every 2-4 months. I don't live in NYC. Georgia is not a place to find good public transportation. I need a driver's license. Could hypnotherapy work? How can I find a hypnotherapist?

A. Hypnotherapy can not cure epilepsy...neither can homeopathy, naturopathy, aroma therapy, chiropractic, etc.You need to see a neurologist evaluate your course of medication or possibly discuss surgery. Regardless of your transportation needs you do not need to be behind the wheel of an automobile.

How would a colony of psychic bats who practice hypnotherapy go about luring an Irishman into their cave?
Q. Would they put chicken curry in a bear trap? Would they use their psychic powers to lure him into the cave? Would they hypnotize him to believe he is Batman, then use the Bat-Signal to summon him? How would the Irishman escape from the cave, if he only had dingbat repellent on him for protection?

A. I think they'd probably know his fondness for dingbats, on account of the psychic ability and know that the repellent was all a facade. They'd douse him in the spray and the dingbats would come. Clearly, now that the Irishman is surrounded with a harem of dingbats, he's naturally, instinctively even, drawn into the cave. He went in willingly, the bats are pleased. He will leave the cave when the dingbats grow lax and tiresome. The bats will let him, knowing he cannot live without experiencing the depths of the cave again soon. The cave...the *cave* is the Irishman's greatest weakness. The bats are wise to nest there. Before he leaves they use the hypnosis to make him believe it's all of his own free will that he's drawn to the… [cont.]
