A. There are no alternative treatments for HBV. Okay, that's not quite true...there are lots, but none of them have been actually proven to do anything, thats why they are "alternative" Testing positive for HBV is not the same thing as having active disease. The most common testing just looks for immunoglobulins your body makes when you have been exposed to the virus, and those will always test positive.

What makes you think alternative medicine is effective?
Q. Indeed, western medicine can be risky. But alternative medicines are not usually backed by any kind of science. Which is not to say that science does not study nature and plants in relation to human health. Aspirin was discovered in the bark of a type of tree. But with such concrete science backing western medicine and next to no science behind alternative medicine, why should I believe it's effective?

A. there is science to some alternative medicine and many are attempts at extracting the ingredients yourself, which is silly if you can buy better stuff for your needs but is a tradition that should be remembered like moon shining and home brew. .

Has anyone successfully treated bipolar disorder with alternative medicine, or know of anyone who has?
Q. I am sick of the sugar cravings and weight gain, and would like to try alternative medicine or herbal remedies if possible. I am currently taking an anti-depressant and a mood stabilizer (Seroquel), and it seems to help, but the effectiveness is short lived, and then I have to increase the dosage again.

A. I have known people that did that but unfortunately it did not work and they ended up worse than before. They actually ended up on more meds than before. I personally would not try it. Talk to your doctor though, there may be an alternative to the meds you are on that does not cause the side-effects.

How do I get into a career in alternative medicine?
Q. I would like to pursue a career in alternative medicine, something like acupuncture, aromatherapy or massage therapy, but I don't know where to start. What kind of degree or major would I need?
Asked by Chloe - Fri Feb 13 16:25:10 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. there are numerous schools that have such training, most however want you to have some college first. Most have an M.S. degree or offer what is known as a "first professional certificate", which one earns after a Bachelors degree. Most also offer an Associates degree, and for some specializations, a 'diploma'. In many cases, after graduation, you sit for some kind of 'licensing board exam' (ask every school about the pass rate of their grads - if they balk at giving that info, walk away) Very few schools in this sector are residential, so look for one local to you. CAVEAT: every state has different rules about licensing, and it is up to YOU to research that (the schools should be able to assist you though)

You may need to beef up your transcript with another degree in pre-med or chiropractic in order to qualify. You can do it!

Do you think Obama should have included more alternative medicine and energy healing in the healthcare bill?
Q. The Health care bill wages war on alternative medicine. Even a casual look at the fine details shows a clear desire to steer people away from chiropractic, acupuncture, supplementation, and energy medicine, and spiritual therapy and help/care. Any thinking person should be outraged since WESTERN corporate drug company and government controlled medicine is best when mixed with spiritual healing and treatment.

A. The politicians...who mind you are all corporate fat cats before public servants...will do away with all forms of healing that do not directly profit them. We need to be archiving data and hiding it in remote locations so that it can be found in thousands of years after all forms of alternative healing have been outlawed by the government. This is a lot bigger an issue then most people understand. John McCain is waging war against supplements right now. Once the FDA gets involved in determining what herbs/supplements can be sold expect the potency, efficacy, and access to supplement/herbs to dwindle down. Disinformation campaigns have and will be waged... i would like to ask mr sparky and ratz above if he/they ever been treated by… [cont.]

A. Washington state and Oregon , I think, both cover most alternative treatments, as should every state. A lot of companies may be covering more alternative options when they discover that it costs only 10% of allopathic(toxic) medicine , or less, and has much less continuing need and much less side effects. Many states like Oklahoma may require all health insurance to cover chiropractic, but you have to know it and or may need a referral. Also, even if you have to pay for natural nontoxic ways yourself, it is almost always worth it ! Look into it, as very few officials will tell you the truth.

Asked by palmaresmarilyn - Wed Feb 7 02:42:34 2007 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Chemo is not usually an option for thyroid cancer. Radioactive I131 is administered a few months after your thyroid is removed. The thyroid gland takes up iodine and so do the cancer cells. So by having treatment with I131 you will be killing the remaining cells, The benefits of treatment outweigh the side effects as there are few with I131. As for diet, the is no alternative for thyroid cancer but there is a diet you need to go on before scans and treatments called the Low Iodine Diet. Here is a site that can help you listed below

A. The problem with today's health care is that it has become too commercialized. They hype on cures and benefits but then they later qualify that the preparation has no approved therapeutic claims. Maybe the product is research based, maybe it does help but the price we pay will bring us to poverty faster than we can get cured. I solved the problem by going back to basics. I read and read about natural foods and juices and consulted a Chinese herbalists for detox. Then of course the basic 30 minute exercise, walking is fine, it doesn't have to be rigorous. Yoga meditation and vegetarianism is also a good idea. If I were you, I will rediscover nature's inexpensive bounty. It is a mind-body experience!

Do those who practice alternative medicine keep themselves aware of the advances of modern science?
Q. The advances of science, particularly those in metabolism, genetics, and nanotechnology, promise unprecedented medical techniques that will revolutionize the practice of medicine in the coming years. Things like targeted drug delivery, RNA interference, patient specific therapy, gene therapy, stem cell therapy, cloning, etc, will do so much in the fight against disease. As an example, work on T-cell engineering, combined with advances in our understanding of cellular communication in the immune system, will soon allow physicians to expose immune cells to particular antigens and tell them to attack and kill any cell that has it, or not to. A. A very good question. I would say no, and in my experience alties are anti-science. Just look at homeopathy. They will only cite science when it works to their advantage. They rather use pseudoscience to promote their quackery. They will twist and misreport the real science, like acupuncturists do. And they still use the appeal to tradition fallacy - eg; some folk remedy has been used for thousands of years so it must work. Keep in mind that traditional homeopathy and chiropractic rejects germ theory.
