Q. You can't say it's because they can't. If they speek out off duty and in civilian clothes there is nothing the military can do. The only exception are high profile soldiers like Generals. Our objective was to survive the encounter. We trained in fighting with your rifle and bayonet as close encounter weapons. I assume that hand to hand combat is still taught. I hope so anyway. I don't even know that bayonets are still issued, but learning to use your rifle as a close quarters weapon is a good skill and served me well.
